With the exception of plantar warts or trauma to the foot, checking the shoes you’ve been wearing is the first step in caring for foot pain.
There are many shoe wear products on the market that are designed to provide pain relief. Pain relief footwear may just be the ticket to alleviating or preventing the problems you are experiencing.

The foot is one of the least seen parts of the body and for this reason often does not receive the level of care and attention that other parts do. This can in turn lead to a variety of foot problems and the discomfort of sore feet. Here are 5 essential foot facts to be aware of when considering your foot care regime.

A callus may cause foot pain. It is a skin build-up that developed due to pressure over the bone. It is usually found on the foot’s bottom, and causes pain when walking. Shoes may also cause foot pain – too loose or too tight shoes may give you incredible pain in your foot.Injury such as connective tissue wear or muscle strain can cause swelling and pain. Irritation or tearing of the foot’s fascia, tendons and ligaments can cause foot pain. Walking and other activities will become difficult.

Apply an ice pack on the affected area to reduce pain and swelling. Elevating the feet will also help. Minimize your activities to give the injury time to heal. As the injury gets better, do slow stretches of the foot by rotating the ankle and pointing the toes up and down. Making the connective tissues more flexible will help reduce the risk of future irritation. Anti-inflammatory medicine will also bring relief.

Nerve damage can be a hazardous condition. This is because it is through the nerves that the brain registers sensations. Someone with nerve damage may not realize that they have an injury such as a cut or blister. If not taken care of, these minor foot injuries can develop into ulcers, and if the ulcer isn’t taken care of, gangrene can develop which can lead to amputation.

When you have to walk on your feet all day the last thing you need is foot pain. It makes the day feel twice as long. It makes it hard to concentrate on work and you certainly do not feel like playing when you get off work. You just want to go home and get off your feet.

Calluses are thickened layers of skin caused by repeated pressure or friction. These are usually seen on the top or side of a toe when shoes do not fit properly. A bunion is a condition where the big toe points toward the second toe. This causes a bump on the edge of the foot that may also appear on the joint of the big toe.

Foot pain is a function of age, with the main problems being bunions, arthritic joints, poor circulation, fungal toenails, an inflammation of the fibrous tissue on the sole of the foot known as plantar fasciitis, and a thinning of the pads of fat that cushion the fibrous tissue on the sole of the foot.

What are the best techniques for hiking up and down hills? Fun and active walks oftentimes take us off our flat sidewalks and out into the country and woods; we need to use good techniques when we walk there.

Up Steep Hills: The biggest mistake climbing the hills is to get up on their toes. Keep your heels down; this will stretch out your calf muscles and Achilles tendons and reduce cramping and strains and keep your soles on the ground where they belong for more traction. Slow down by shortening your steps, don’t try to race up the hill, slow down and enjoy the view.

Down Steep Hills: Like going uphill, shorten your stride and slow your pace. Bend your knees slightly to lower your center of gravity downward but not back. Too much leaning back and your feet will slide out from under you. Be careful not to turn your feet at an angle to the trail; it will increase your chances of rolling over on your ankle. Keep your toes pointed down for the best grip and stability.

To learn more about other foot conditions, causes, and solutions visit footmatters.net
